Repetitive Stress Injuries

Repetitive Stress Injuries

A repetitive stress injury is caused by performing the same action over and over, this in turn causes damage to muscles, nerves, tendons, and soft body tissue. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a form of a repetitive stress injury but there are also many others. Other repetitive stress disorders include: bursitis, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Tendinitis, Tendinosis, Trigger Finger/Thumb, DeQuervain's Syndrome, and many other similar conditions. These cases can be painful, dangerous, and even lead to permanent disability.

Some of the symptoms which may occur with repetitive stress injuries are swelling, numbness, tingling, or coldness in the hands; pain and stiffness in the neck, upper back, and shoulders from using a computer; a stiffness, soreness or a burning feeling in the arms, wrists or hands; a lessening of strength and coordination in the hands; and sometimes a pain so dibilitating that it wakes you up at night.

At Back On Track our clients will get the best care in treating these repetitive stress injuries. Our trained therapists will evaluate an individual and design a treatment plan. Our physical therapists will gather information about the cause of the injury and make adjustments to our clients lifestyle or work environment. There are a variety of treatments that can be used to lessen the pain and build strength. Our therapists will provide our clients with strengthening exercises and stretches in order to ease pain and reduce fatigue. Soft tissue therapy can also be utilized to decompress the afflicted area and promote healing and better circulation.
